Google Dominates Search, Overall Use of Search Engines Waning

It is interesting to follow the trends of search engines. I used to spend a lot of time watching Google’s share of the Billions of Searches on the internet climb versus Yahoo and MSN, but now I have found it more interesting to see that the total volume of searches continues to decline month over month…my guess for this phenomena is due to more active users of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to interact. As well, I think the ability to use RSS feeds to get information has gotten easier. All of these ways we interact with the internet continues to change and evolve. I also think the economy is a reflection of weaker shopping cycles for consumers and thus less incentive to research and purchase products since consumer spending is still soft.

In any case, I am glad we started and continue to optimize websites for Google and focus on how to drive traffic from many sources as opposed to tweaking for several search engines…

I will also be interested to see how much the twitter search engine evolves and grows…
